Still I Rise: Performing at TED TALKS

This month I had the breathtaking opportunity of performing Maya Angelou’s Poem “Still I Rise” with young women who received a scholarship from TedxPasadena: Women.  The theme of this years talks are RISE UP!

“Rise to the challenge! Rise up! Rise and shine! Any way you look at it, rise is a little verb packing some serious positivity. And, with today’s global digital culture delivering what can seem like an endless stream of bad news, some serious positivity sounds downright empowering. This year’s event is dedicated to great thinkers who’ve dared to believe we can build a better world by calling on that power. Their ideas have—in some way great or small—suggested it’s possible to trade the heaviness of hopelessness, resentment and self-preservation for the lightness of anticipation, curiosity and self-sacrifice. Join in for a day dedicated to transcending the past and transforming the future. RISE —get ready to celebrate Ideas That Elevate!”

Below are pictures from the event.

Manage stress as a teen

How to manage stress and anxiety (as a teen)

Hey teens!! we’re being tossed a lot of information that we cant handle! Or can we?

We’re constantly overwhelmed with grades,  Confusing homework and figuring out our future. Plus all the million other things we have to deal with OUTSIDE of school!   School is the #1 Culprit for Teen Stress- which makes a TON of sense! We’re judged so harshly for our work even if try our best and in the end our knowledge is determined on a piece of paper.

U.S teens are more stressed than adults

It’s important as a youth today that we know how to balance everything in life and not let one thing take over the other, especially the questionable people in power with P’s controlling our country, killing the environment, deporting people who know America as their home- I can go on and on. And in the end, what they do is going to be in our hands. It is not fair that these billionaires get to pollute this earth and destroy it because of greed and its up to us to fix it.

Here are some things we can do to take a breath and relax- We deserve it!

MOVE YOUR BODY!!

Whether its yoga, skating with your buddies or even walking your dog around the block. Engaging in physical activity is proven to reduce stress by an immense amount. Exercising not only relaxes you it boosts confidence, improves complexion and mood, it will help  you get a great nights rest! So when you’re feeling upset and angry like you want to scream, go for a nice walk outside and you will feel better.

REACH OUT!!

Even if you don’t think so. There will always be people who want to listen and help no matter what. It’s not the end of the world and things always get better. When you feel like no one cares or wants to listen to you your wrong. Think of a friend, family member or someone you really trust, give them a call and tell them whats up, you will feel much better after getting it off your chest. Getting social support from people you care about is vital and a great stress reliever.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND REMEMBER YOUR STRENGTHS

We must always remember that in order to really do our best, we must first take care of ourselves. An example of this would be

1.)Hygiene: When you’re bombarded with work it’s often easy to forget to take a shower or brush your teeth you might be going everywhere in your PJ’s too. That will just stress ya out even more! Taking care of yourself and looking “presentable” (i.e: NOT smelling like a garbage can in your PJ’s) will make you feel better and determined to get the work done!

2.) Mindfulness: Too many thoughts running through your head at once? Writing down your thoughts will help clear your mind so you focus on the task at hand. It’s also a form of meditation which also helps too, taking 5 minutes to sit, close your eyes and forget about school, work and everything that is stressing you out will help you regroup and feel better.

Always remember everything you do and love doing, find out a way to help others with this and do it even more, if you love animals, volunteer at an animal shelter or if you admire painting go to an art class, Put  what you love to do before what you have to do and those stresses will seem like nothing. Because in the end its what you love that matters no matter what.

Here are some great sources that all teens should know about!

1.) TEEN LINE. Do you need help working something out? Do you want to talk to someone who understands, like another teen? https://teenlineonline.org is the place to go!

2.)BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB. A great place and a safe space to make friends and have fun! Click here!

3.) VOLUNTEER:  Volunteering at a local senior center or youth group is great! Not only will you meet new people, get volunteer hours and have fun. Volunteering  is a great learning experience all around!

Why is school stressing me out?  – what is it about school that is causing this stress?  Is it necessary? What is the end result of stress? your health. Is it worth it? Comment below or write me about what you feel!

Cruelty free KINDri is my choice!

Cruelty free KINDri is my choice and it should be yours too!knidribottles8201a

Everyone is always seeking the best results yet also the best for their skin too. SO many beauty companies use horrible chemicals such as Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazolinone.. im sorry what even is that name.. GROSS! and did you know that chemicals like those might be in the face wash or serum YOU are using!!!   It is important that we know what we are using and putting on our bodies!

KINDri uses ONLY natural ingredients such as prickly pear cactus seed oil, All natural and organic almond oil, Cooling citrus oil and aloe vera in her skin care formulas. Many of the oils she uses are quite hard to find because they are literally straight from the plant and from the desert.

Robin  McDonald of KINDri has been mentioned in Vougue, instyle, yahoo and much more! ” Robin is my go to person! She is knowledgable about the best and most effective products on the market and really cares about “the natural health and maintenance of the skin” states Charlize Theron

I had heard so much amazing stuff about KINDri i decided to give it a try and WOW was i impressed!
unnamed-1 I tried the Orange Almond Cleansing Oil which consists of 100% organic almond oil, sunflower oil, Cactus Pear oil, pink gratefruit oil, grapeseed oil and orange oil- You cant find these oils at regular stores.  I would apply to my cheeks, eyebrows and nails every-night. After the first few days of using i noticed that my cheeks were softer and lighter, evening out my skin tone! I couldn’t believe it that in just a little time my eyebrows grew out longer and thicker and my nails grew stronger and longer! Definitely a go to if you have dry skin or even normal skin because it moisturizes your skin it doesn’t make it all oily and gross like other serums and oils out there. Then my mom who is in her 50s tried KINDri’s serum.  In  a week her skin looked firm and smooth!

CTG student ambassador program is  a free program for Los Angeles County high school students who are curious about the arts and want to build leadership and teamwork skills.  – CTG

Being in the program you get access to many opportunities such as seeing plays, attending workshops all for free and much more! Did i mention you get paid 500$ stipend in the end or community service hours for completion of the program!  But that is not what this program is about- Its about building a trust and friendship with people who may be very different from you or very similar  and working on helping the arts and our community such as fighting for arts in public schools, making the arts more accessible and much more.  One reason i applied is because i want to use theater as a form to connect and inform people with their community.

Then once you get in there is an orientation with breakfast where parents and guests were invited to hear more about the program and have a nice brunch with a scavenger hunt we went around downtown and grand park in teams to find clues to solve puzzles resulting with awards ! It was super nice because it was like i was in another decade not having my phone on me was super nice for a change!  I also wasn’t  about anything except if solve the clues and riddles right!

The program requires a lot of commitment missing more than one meeting could result in removal from the program if you know that you are going to be busy any of those days or just not show up at all  it might not be the best fit !

Every meeting starts with some nice food (as always) and some warm ups to get everybody confident and ready to work.  Some exercises include Augusto Boal   and also some that involve speaking out and becoming comfortable with yourself and who YOU are or what you identify your self as.

New CTG Ambassadors!!
New CTG Ambassadors!! and our awesome Mentors/leaders Felipe and Camille!!
